覃重军

覃重军,1965年2月生,籍贯湖南省邵阳市 ,中科院分子植物科学卓越创新中心研究员,中科院合成生物学重点实验室主任,国家杰出青年基金获得者。从事合成微生物、药物生物制造等方面的研究。在国际上首次人工创建单条染色体的真核细胞酿酒酵母。与企业合作利用基因组工程构建了抗寄生虫药物多拉菌素等工业生产菌株,打破了国外垄断。

人物经历

1987年毕业于武汉大学生物系微生物专业,获学士学位。

1992年毕业于华中农业大学微生物系,获博士学位。 1994年被破格提拔为副教授。主持国家自然科学青年基金和湖北省自然科学基金各一项。

1994年,覃重军确立了自己的5个科学梦想:要在重大基础研究、原创技术、产业化、解决人类疾病、新理论上有所突破。

1995年至2000年在美国斯坦福大学基因工程创始人之一Stanley N. Cohen教授实验室作博士后, 从事链霉菌线型质粒的复制、重组、修复、 接合转移、端粒基因、异常DNA结构等方面的研究。

2001年通过“引进国外杰出人才计划”答辩, 被中国科学院上海植物生理研究所聘为研究员、博士生导师。

覃重军

2001年回国后主持国家“863”项目和国家自然科学基金共4项,主持上海市、科学院、所基金共5项。

2002年任微生物次生代谢分子调控研究开放实验室主任。

2003年获国家杰出青年科学基金资助。

2013年5月8日,覃重军瞄准了真核单细胞生物的模式材料——酿酒酵母,花了5年时间,用基因编辑的方法,将酿酒酵母中16条天然染色体合成为1条,创建出了国际首例人造单染色体真核细胞,实现“人造生命”里程碑式的重大突破。该成果于2018年8月2日在线发表在《自然》杂志上。

研究工作

从事分子微生物学、分子微生物组学和微生物药物代谢工程的研究,主要内容包括:(1)放线菌线型染色体和线型质粒的生物学功能。(2)中草药植物内生放线菌。(3)放线菌基因组工程。(4)微生物药物工业生产菌种的遗传改良。

荣誉记录

2019年6月28日,被评为科学中国人(2018)年度人物。

学术成就

博士毕业论文发表在国际知名专业期刊《细菌学杂志》上,这也是华中农大在该本杂志上发表的第一篇学术文章。

两年前,覃重军带领团队将酿酒酵母中16条天然染色体合成为1条,创建出了国际首例人造单染色体真核细胞。这一成果在线发表在《自然》杂志上,被业界认为是合成生物学具有里程碑意义的重大突破。

带领团队首次在粘细菌中发现质粒并建立遗传操作系统,全世界有20多个实验室来函索取质粒载体;对大肠杆菌的基因组进行了“删减、重组、优化、合成”等操作,做了大量有益的探索。他的团队与国内制药企业合作改良了抗寄生虫药物多拉菌素,打破了国外在该领域的垄断,药品销售额超过亿元。
